Dear AmeriKKKa ::

“De nigger woman is de mule uh de world so far as Ah can see." ~Their Eyes Were Watching God

If your goal was to make me FEEL like the mule that Zora describes in Their Eyes Were Watching God, you did that!

  • I feel unprotected.

  • I feel disrespected.

  • I feel unsupported.

  • I feel undervalued.

  • I feel unappreciated.

  • I feel lonely.

  • I feel unloved.

  • I feel used.

  • I feel unpretty.

I feel like that damn mule because you’ve created an environment where:

  • Society doesn’t respect me.

  • Black men see no value in me.

  • I am taught to uphold patriarchal values.

  • I am tricked into protesting, fighting for agendas  that don’t include me.

  • I am taught to take care of everyone in the world, but myself.

  • I receive substandard healthcare and when I demand better I am ignored.

  • My body is used for everyone’s pleasure.

  • My disappearance and death goes unnoticed and without concern.

I am living with complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD), and crushing under its weight wondering who will stand for the Black woman?
